Who Does She Think She Is?

Some people are wondering why I am hosting an event this month here in Dallas. Like... what makes me qualified to host an event? Why do I think I can throw a party and I don't even have 1k followers on IG? How am I just going to come to a new city where I don't know anyone and expect to have a successful event? Tuh!

FYI, I do more than just eat. LOL Although it may not seem like it, I really do make time to have a life....in between meals :) I am a project manager by profession. I specialize in managing all aspects of residential construction/full rehabs/remodels. I have managed projects with companies that complete this type of work all over the United States. I plan to have a general contracting company of my own soon and very soon!! I will focus on rehabbing foreclosed homes for banks like Fannie Mae, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, etc., but I will also dabble in new construction. Coordinating/project management is my passion and it doesn't hurt that I am good at it. Another thing that pushes me within this field is the fact that it is male dominated....I love a challenge and creating the unexpected :)

With this passion, I thought I would try to channel it differently and a couple years ago I started a wedding and event planning company in Houston. I focused on weddings but I did coordinating and planning for all events. I had so much fun!!! I started by assisting a well known planner, who is now based out of California, with a Nigerian wedding. It was absolutely beautiful and I loved every minute! I took my business cards and passed them out, hoping that someone would give me a chance to do something on my own. I guess I made a good impression because the BRIDE recommended me to one of her friends that was getting married. I was so nervous and so excited!

It turned out so beautiful!!! The guests were impressed, I was impressed, but most importantly, the bride and groom were SO happy with the results. After that event, I remember driving home in complete awe of myself. I couldn't believe I did it! I had help of course, one of my best friends and a planner in the area teamed up with me and helped with set up. After that I did a few more events here and there, but I kind of let it fizzle away because I was so focused on work....but the passion never left. So now that I am in a new area and comfortable in my career, I figured why not get back to it?! People in Dallas love to party!!!

Work Hard, Play Harder! Yes, Dallas loves to party...but Dallas is also home to some of the best entrepreneurs! I wanted to host an event that helped bring together our black owned business community so that we can network and help each other flourish! There are so many black owned businesses, small and large, in the Dallas area and I believe that we need more events that will showcase our talents, expertise and knowledge. So be on the lookout for more events to come from lil ol me for sure, as I collaborate and get to know you all! Thank you to those who believe in me and my visions...and a BIG thank you to everyone who is participating in this first event!!!

So, to answer the questions at hand....I am a project manager, a planner, a dreamer and a supporter! I believe in people, I want to see people do well and achieve their goals. What is your passion? Have you put your passion on the back burner? Sometimes, you just have to take that first step of faith towards what you really want. You weren't given that vision for no reason!!! Reignite your passion now! You can do it! Don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't. I support your dreams!

Love,

Meek
